Countdown to March 10th in San Francisco: Day 3
The relay protest is drawing more and more sympathy from the peoples of San Francisco Bay Area. The number of protesters and veracity of the slogans are gaining momentum each day. “China Go Home,” shouted a senior Tibetan activist. The beat passed on, a young Tibetan chanted, “China lies, Tibetans die.”
Tibetans from far flung areas such as Oakland, Stanford and El Cerrito showed up to protest this Wednesday. A banner in Chinese read, "A Free Tibet is a Peaceful China." The number of Tibetan protesters had reached fifteen in total and supporters to seven. Drivers regularly honked as a gesture of moral support for an independent Tibet, free of Chinese oppression. A Chinese student from Stanford University came in support of a Free Tibet; on the front of his shirt bearing “Free Tenzin Delek Now!” A group of girls from San Francisco State University joined the protest after they had seen us from the 38 No. bus on Geary Street. We also had American and Asian
visa-applicants coming out of the Consulate cheering the crowd and asking us to continue the protest of shaming China, known for the gross human rights violations not only in Tibet, but throughout China. Close to a hundred leaflets were distributed to public during the two hour protest.
From a few meters away from where we stood protesting, the Falung Gong practitioners silently protesting on a daily basis in front of the Chinese consulate were nodding their heads at us, acknowledging the sufferings under the draconian policies of communist China. The protest will continue to rage on everyday of the week from 1pm -3 pm.
