Brief Report 2000

March 10th
The Bay Area RTYC, in conjunction with the Tibetan community at large, observed the commemoration of the 41st anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day.

April 8th
RTYC Chapter opens information both during the " TIBET DAY "organized by Bay Area friends of Tibet at fort mason San Francisco. We distribute pamphlets, information on TYC activities, launch signature campaign and discuss Tibet related issue with individuals. At the end of the day RTYC General Secretary participate in the panel discussion with other support groups including speakers from of Tibetan Association of Northern California, Milarepa, Students for free Tibet Stanford University, Bay Area friends of Tibet, Committee of 100 for Tibet and other dignitaries

Following is a detailed report on Rangzen walk which was set off from San Francisco on April 25, 2000, the ninth birth anniversary of the 11th Panchen Lama, Tibet's second highest spiritual leader whose whereabouts continue to remain unknown since his abduction by the Chinese government five years ago.

April 20th
The Bay Area RTYC members warmly received the late TYC General Secretary, Mr Pema Lhundup. A modest lodging during his stay there was arranged in the city (San Francisco) itself. 12 April 22, 2000: This particular day, which for the last few years has been commemorated as "Tibet Heritage Day", was marked by a modest function which besides speeches by concerned speakers also featured elaborate cultural performances. This endeavor, realized through the joint efforts of the TANC (Tibetan Association of Northern California) and, Bay Area RTYC as rendered a great success by the auspicious presence of all the Rangzen Walkers. A considerable fund for the Rangzen Walk was raised by the TANC with support from the RTYC.

April 23rd
At a reception function held for the late TYC General Secretary, the chapter's President, Mr. Kunga, read the Bay Area RTYC's annual report out which was followed by a welcome speech. This in turn was followed by a passionate and inspiring speech by the visiting representative from the executive committee of the Tibetan Youth Congress, the late Pema Lhundup la. A tea and snacks session followed.

April 25th
The ninth birth anniversary of the 11th Panchen Lama was marked by the historic event of Rangzen Walk which was participated by the marchers along with the members of RTYC, TANC and about 300 Tibetan and foreign friends. The march, set off from the Golden Gate Bridge before culminating at the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco, had as its primary demand the unconditional release of the Panchen Lama and all other political prisoners inside Tibet.

An incredible amount of flyers and press releases were distributed among the general public in order to raise their awareness about Tibet in general and the plight of the young Panchen Lama in particular. The Rangzen Walk, which was successfully organized with joint collaboration between the RTYC, TANC and Bay Area Friends of Tibet, remains one of the most ambitious contributions by Tibetans from this part of the world towards the Tibetan freedom struggle.

A grand dinner was hosted in honor of all the Rangzen Walk participants in the evening of the same day. The RTYC executive members expressed their appreciation to both the marchers and the organizers by offering them traditional Tibetan scarves.

May 20 and 21st
The Himalayan Fare, a popular annual event in Berkeley, this year felt the Tibetan presence through a photo exhibition on Tibet hosted by the Bay Area RTYC, during which the members left no stone unturned in their efforts towards generating Tibet awareness.

June 24th
The Bay Area RTYC executive members joined the Rangzen Walk in its last leg of March from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Mid July
The Bay Area RTYC Executive members and its general members held a long and fruitful discussion on the holding of cultural competition on TYC foundation day in memory of Tibetan martyr.

TYC Foundation Day Report
The Regional Tibetan Youth Congress celebrated the 31st year of the Tibetan Youth Congress founding day. The program started with National Anthem and TYC Song followed by a minute silence to honor those great men & women who sacrificed their life for the cause of our freedom & to the late Secretary Mr. Pema Lhundup la. Minster of Security Department of Exile Tibetan Government Mr. Pema Chonjor was invited as our guest of honor.

Speech from Kalon and the President of Tibetan Association of Northern California, both the speaker said high of the TYC for it's firm believe towards the independence of Tibet and it's tireless efforts & hard work to accomplish it. They expressed their deep appreciation and encouraged every Tibetan Youth to stand together as it always had been for the restoration of complete independence of Tibet. Both of them were very much inspired with the arrangements we made and thanked the RTYC here sincerely.

Cultural Competition was held among the Tibetan residing at different city around here in San Francisco, however, we got only five groups and each did one group song and a dance. All did their best and the show was a success. About 250 people showed up. Everybody seemed to enjoy a lot. We received many appreciation words from the elders and everyone is encouraged to do more of these things in future because this was the first time that such a competition ever held here in San Francisco.

We had a prize distribution by the chief guest to all the participants. There were 4 Participants in total and each group were awarded $ 50.00 along with the RTYC Honor certificate, except the winner was enveloped with $100.00.And a winning trophy is travelling.

December 10th
RTYCSF Observed World human rights day and called for international support to end the Communist Chinese dictatorship.
