Photo exhibition on Tibet: Voice for voiceless. May 26 & 27, 2001. The Bay area chapter of Tibetan Youth Congress presents a Photo Exhibition on Tibet to mark the Tibetan presence in the Himalayan Festival being held on Shattuck at Berkeley from May 26th & 27th. Featuring photographs of Tibetan people and Tibetan Landscapes from before Tibet's loss of independence to communist China in 1959; of the escape across the Himalayan into India of the Tibetan spiritual and temporal leader, the 14th Dalai Lama, of the resettlement in India plains of Tibetan refugees, the exhibition evokes testimony to Tibet's glorious past that once was a gruesome tragedy it presently is.
Nowhere else is communist China's annihilation of Tibetan culture heritage more pronounced then in the brutal desecration of religious idols and some of the image from inside the occupied country. Also reflective of the Tibetan commitment to non-violence and reconciliation are the images of Tibetan protestors across the world demanding an end to their country's tragedy.
These feelings shots, few by professionals and mostly by amateurs, lend voice to the suffering voiceless inside Tibet. Tibet an independent nation was military occupied by communist China in 1959. Tibet 's spiritual and temporal leader the Dalai Lama, escaped to India shortly thereafter, followed by hundreds of thousand Tibetans. Since then, the Dalai Lama has been asking for genuine self- rule for Tibetan appeal that continues to be ignored by Beijing.

August 4th & 5th
Executive members from four regional Tibetan Youth Congress chapters across Northern America will held meet from August 4 through 5 to brainstorm on revitalizing the youth organization's impact in furthering the Tibetan struggle for freedom. The members represent regional TYC chapters of San Francisco, Portland, Minnesota and New York.
Among other things, the meeting focuses on exploring ways to extract stronger commitment from the UN towards seeking a resolution of the Tibet issues. Evoking a consistent action on Tibet from the US Special Co-coordinator for Tibet also tops the list of meeting agenda.
The meeting owes its significance primarily to its initiative towards seeking improved co-ordination among the various RTYC chapters across Northern America. Be it in organizing political campaigns, cultural events or other social activities. The meeting, while being the first of its kind, has been felt highly wanting over the past years and it is with great pride that the San Francisco-based Regional Tibetan Youth Congress assumes the mantle as its organizers.
Results of the 2nd Annual TYC Cultural Competition
The cultural competion, held in honor of the 32nd Anniversary of the founding of the Tibetan Youth Congress, took place on October 7, 2001, at the Unitarian Church in Kensington.
