More than hundred Tibetans and supporters took buses, arranged by SF Team Tibet, to Sacramento, the Capitol of California on March 16th to support resolution ACR 6 stating March 10th as “Tibet Awareness Day and Honoring the Dalai Lama” proposed by California Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee. There were convincing arguments in support of the resolution on the Assembly floor, but the Resolution was sent to the Rules Committee for further examination before it could be voted upon. It is believed that hard lobbying was done by the Chinese officials from the consulate in San Francisco towards the democrats in an attempt to deliberately kill the bill. Democrat Speaker Karen Bass and majority floor leader Alberto Torrico led the movement of fighting against resolution ACR 6. Sam Blakeslee got interested in Tibet after his son who went missing for a year was actually teaching English at TCV in Dharamsala. When Sam went to see his son he experienced the Tibetan culture for the first time and saw our unique way of life, which led him to be a strong supporter of Tibet promoting that Tibetan culture and values are something that should be preserved. Sam Blakeslee promised that he would keep trying and said he is determined to follow up on this matter with thoroughly investigation into the case.
