One year since th Lhasa Crackdown
After weeks of extreme militarization with social and political repression in Tibet, hundreds of Bay Area Tibetans joined forces with SFRTYC to mark the one-year anniversary of the brutal Lhasa uprising of 2008. SFRTYC organized the event in commemoration of those Tibetan Freedom Fighters that rose up in what began as a peaceful protest last year on March 14th, 2008 in Lhasa, capitol of Tibet. The rally started at the Constitution Square in downtown Berkeley leading to UC Berkeley then through the busy Telegraph street then back Shattuck. Tibetans of all ages participated in handing out fliers to the public in hopes of raising awareness of this day and calling on the community to take action. A traditional prayer session was also held after the event.
