BAY AREA TIBETANS JOIN TOGETHER IN SUPPORT OF THE MEETING BETWEEN HIS HOLINESS THE DALAI LAMA AND PRESIDENT OBAMA!
Berkeley–Bay Area Tibetans and supporters will join an international day of action on Wednesday and Thursday of this week - calling on President Obama to take advantage of the meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and most importantly listen to what he has to say. The focus will be on thanking the Obama administration for arranging this meeting, despite all the multiple threats from China warning it would harm bilateral Relations.
San Francisco – Bay Area Tibetans and supporters join human rights activists worldwide in condemning the Chinese government’s illegal execution of four Tibetans in Lhasa on October 20. The confirmed identities of the executed are Lobsang Gyaltsen, aged 27, Loyak, aged 25, and Penkyi, aged 21. A fourth unidentified Tibetan was also reportedly executed on the same day. Activists call on the U.S. government to immediately respond and denounce this travesty of justice, and ask for concrete action on Tibet by President Obama during his upcoming visit to China.
San Francisco – Tibetans and Tibet supporters in the San Francisco Bay Area are protesting, to mark 50 years of Chinese oppression in Tibet, countering a highly provocative new holiday declared by the Chinese government in Tibet on March 28th – the day in 1959 when China seized complete control of the Tibetan government following the Dalai Lama’s escape from Lhasa, the Tibetan capital, after Tibetans rose up against Chinese rule. The official celebrations will take place at a time of high tension in Tibet when the entire region remains under de facto martial law due to the sensitive anniversary of the March 1959 National Uprising.
After weeks of extreme militarization with social and political repression in Tibet, hundreds of Tibetans will join forces today with Bay Area supporters and Tibet organizations to commemorate the Tibetan Freedom Fighters that rose up in what began as a peaceful protest last year on March 14th in Lhasa, capitol of Tibet. The Rally will begin at 4pm at the Constitutional Square.
(Feb.1, 2009) San Francisco- Hundreds of Tibetans and supporters as far away as Denver to Los Angeles will join forces with local Tibet organizations to commemorate March 10th, the 50th anniversary of Tibetan National Uprising Day with flag-raising, rallies, marches, and a candlelight vigil in Berkeley and San Francisco. 50 years ago on March 10, 1959 began an unbroken cycle of injustice and brutal repression in Tibet by hostile Chinese government forces. Immediately after this initial Tibetan uprising, over 87,000 Tibetans were killed by Chinese military forces, consolidating their illegal occupation of Tibet. San Francisco TEAM TIBET vows to continue the resistance to the ever-worsening Chinese government tyranny.
