San Francisco Tibetan Youth Congress celebrated the 40th Founding Day of the Tibetan Youth Congress with the Bay Area Tibetan Community on October 7th 2009 with Chielf guest Tenzin N. Tethong la; one of the founders of the TYC back in 1970.

The Tibetan Youth Congress was founded to preserve the Tibetan cultural traditions and is currently the largest non- governmental organization with more than 30,000 Tibetans members world- wide.

The event started with the traditional Tibetan national anthem, followed by a few words from the President Tsering Dorjee.

"We are gathered here today, to not only celebrate the founding day of TYC but also to take pride in the fact that though we have lost our country, we are still surviving at the will of our community members and will further survive in preserving our birthright Tibetan identity" said Dorjee.

A visual power point slide was presented to the audience portraying the struggle of Tibet through the eyes of the Tibetan Youth Congress dating back from its first founding day, until today. Many of the ex board members participated in an interview session regarding the importance of a Tibetan Youth Congress in their day and age as well as now.

The traditional Shunu anthem was also sung by the current board members as a vow to keep their spirit high and once again promise to do their best in the struggle for an Independent Tibet.

"SFRTYC stands for an Independent Tibet for the Tibetan people in preservation of our birth right Identity as Tibetans in the world" said Dorjee.
